Assateague Island Jan.2016

 Chincoteague Pony Drawing

The Chincoteague Pony, sometimes called the Assateague Horse, live on Assateague Island. The island borders Maryland and Virginia on the Eastern Shore. The horse breed has lived on the island for hundreds of years, and is believed to have been brought there by settlers from Spain or shipwrecks. The ponies were officially registered as a breed in 1994.
Assateague Island has a Maryland State Park, and National Park land on the South end. My family has camped and taken day trips to the State Park numerous times.
